The very reasons we started camping are encompassed here at Peppertree Campground. If you are looking for a place to unplug from the bustle of life and truly connect with nature, you will hit the jackpot here.

Peppertree is a beautiful, quiet campground located directly on the Natchaug River in Eastford, CT. We had the most wonderful time fishing, swimming and lazily floating down the river. At Peppertree, you will find a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere, with a perfect mix of activities for kids and families. There are crafts, games, horseshoes, and be sure not to miss weekly bingo as well.

What I loved the most about this campground? Returning back to what life was like when I was a child; when life was just simpler. I long to give my kids the same experience. Unfortunately, it very hard to find these days.

The Good Ol’ Days

Visiting Peppertree brought back so much of my childhood, and I watched my children soak up every minute of it. They didn’t need anything more than the river, a fishing pole, and some swings to swing on. They rode bikes, jogged around the loop, played in the large open field and spent hours in the river, just being. This is what I want for my kids, to find happiness in themselves and in nature.

When we arrived at Peppertree Campground, we were warmly welcomed and escorted to our campsite. Our site was beautiful, directly on the riverfront. The kids wasted no time in heading straight to the water with their nets to catch minnows and crayfish.

Being able to fish right from our campsite was a highlight. Fishing in the Natchaug River was fantastic! We had many catches, which was very exciting for the kids especially. The water was crystal clear, clean and so refreshing on a hot summer day.

The Real Lazy River

The stretch of the Natchaug River that Peppertree is situated on creates the perfect natural lazy river. Forget the man-made, chlorine- laden lazy rivers you find at crowded water parks. This is a true gift from nature and an incredible experience at Peppertree Campground.

While you float down this slow moving relaxing river, take in the trees, the silence, and the fish swimming underneath your feet in the crystal clear water. There is a small beach area at one end of the campground to load onto your tube. At the other end is an exit area to unload. Go as many times as your heart desires, there is no time limit here; no rush at all.

The playground was exactly what I grew up with, and something kids these days don’t know. A simple swing set, a slide and a large grassy area to run free. With elaborate playscapes these days, I worry my kids won’t understand the joy of simplicity, and the opportunity it provides for creativity and imagination. To my delight, they spent hours on the playground swinging and talking. Taking breaks only to go run through the open field, making up silly games together.

Hospitality

We met some of the nicest campers at this beautiful campground. This campground is run by wonderful people. Therefore, those who camp here are as well. It was clear that many are loyal and long-time returning campers. We felt so much at home, and our family felt welcomed by all.

A special thanks to our neighbors, who offered us their tube while away for a few days. This was such kindness shown to my daughters, and we truly appreciated it. We got many hours of enjoyment floating down the lazy river. Next time we will be sure to remember to bring our own!

With the school year having just ended, and the fast pace of life having consumed us, Peppertree was exactly what we needed to get back to all that matters. Family, nature, simplicity.
